In A Blink of an Eye

January 23rd 2012 a single girl arrived in Uptown Minnesota.  I drove here with my dad not knowing anyone but ready to take on a new challenge.   My challenge was a new job and to take on the world of television but 9 months in my new world changed.  My sister went behind my back and started an online profile for me.  I thought, why not?  I was in a new place, why not meet some new people? I went on a couple miserable dates and decided this sucks, I’m done!  Before I got off I let me take one last look and decided to set up a date with a guy that looked cute and seemed interesting! That guy is now my husband.  Our first date was 5 hours long and we covered everything.  I was my typical self letting him know not to get attached because I don’t commit… well I was wrong!

Where it all started with my little nugget!

Fast forward, this August we celebrated 5 years of dating with our daughter at the place where it all started!  I’m so lucky to have found my forever and this crazy thing called life is so much more fun with these 2 by my side.  One of the many things I love about my husband is that he is the romantic one.  The one that remembers the dates of all the mile stones and he loves to celebrate them no matter how small.  After we had our daughter he made it very clear that he was still so excited to keep dating me.

Delia is not so sure about the guy taking out picture!

Now for what we are wearing… I’m wearing a dress I just got from Stitchfix, shoes are my wedding shoes from JustFab, necklace is Tory Burch, earrings are Stella and Dot.

Delia is wearing hand-me-downs from her cousin Sophia and her sparkly shoes are TOMS.

Josh is wearing a Hammermade shirt, a favorite Minnesota based company that he gets a lot of his dress shirts from.   Jeans are from Old Navy and his shoes are also his wedding shoes that he got from DSW.

And we’re living happily ever after!

My loves!

Cha- Cha- Cha- Changes

Okay, now try and get that song out you of your head!  Life is full of changes and sometimes you simply can’t fight it. It’s with a heavy heart that I’m announcing I’m no longer going to be selling shoes.

We're Closing

Happy Shoe Day is going back to its original glory!  Back to where I search for fabulous shoes and show off how a pair of shoes can complete an outfit.

What does that mean for the Happy Shoe Day Shoe Store?  Shoes won’t be available for sale on the site.  Being a full-time mom, working part time and starting my own consulting firm I simply don’t have the time and energy to also own an online shoe store.  Its been a hard decision to close this part of Happy Shoe Day but its what is best for my family and my sanity.

Searching for a positive in all of this, I’m looking forward to going into a shoe store and shopping!!!  Instead of checking out their inventory and wondering how my little shop can keep up.  Also, I no longer will feel guilty buying shoes when I have a basement full of shoes.  Not sure our bank account is happy about that part.

Happy Shoe Day, the blog, isn’t going anywhere.  I’ll be posting more about trends, fabulous finds and even featuring some baby shoes too.

Everything Must Go!

Where do we go from here?!  Well, I need ALL of the shoes that are in my basement to GET OUT!  I’ve updated the shop to the lowest prices possible.  What you see is what you get… all available sizes are there.  Minnesota peeps: check out the shop and then e-mail (or text) me with your order.  This way I can just drop them off and we don’t have to worry about shipping.

I want to thank everyone for supporting this venture.  What a dream come true to have owned my own shoe store.  I’m sad to see the shoes go but excited to see what the future holds.

Happy Shoe Day CLosing Party

And because I always love a reason to shop, see friends and enjoy a class of bubbly I’m going to have my final shoe party.  Come to the Happy Shoe Day Headquarters and shop the rest of the inventory.  The Style Trolley will be here to help complete the outfits with beautiful pieces.

Details: Sunday, July 23rd from 2-6 pm. 4860 Highcrest Dr, Excelsior, MN.  E-mail me at if you’re interested in stopping by.  Would love to see you!

Have a happy shoe day!

3 Different Occasions, 1 Pair of Shoes

A pair of glitter pumps is all you need to get through the Holiday season!

Shoes take 2

Doesn’t matter the Holiday party you’re going to, these pumps are perfect.  Here are 3 outfits from casual to dressy that’ll help give your look some sparkle.

A Night Out:

Outfit 1

Let’s start with casual! I went with my go-to skinny jeans, these are not only comfortable but the dark wash jeans always helps make your shoes pop.  Not that these pumps need much help!

Outfit one bottom

I wanted to bring in the same gold tone from the shoes to tie in the gold theme for the look.  The sweater I got from Len at Ridgedale years ago and I’m still obsessed with it.  I love a staple sweater that you don’t get sick of.  Then to pull the rest of the look together and create a sassy look I added this faux fur vest.

Outfit 1 top

All Business

Outfit 2

Next party it’s all about the business attire!  I started with a pencil skirt from Primp Boutique.  This skirt shows off your figure and lengthens your legs beautifully. Then to pair it with these pumps you’ll have the illusion that your legs go on for days even if you’re not built like super model.

outfit 2 bottoms

To keep the classiness of the look I paired it with a Cabi Clothing black & white tank.  This tank is still appropriate to wear without the blazer just in case it gets a little warm.  The blazer is from H & M and the peplum adds such a simple and classic detail to the look.

Outfit 2 top

The Classic:

Outfit 3

I have to say that I’m a huge fan of color when it comes to parties.  Everyone else is wearing black but not me,  I’m going to be the pop of color in the group.  This pink dress is a staple for me!  I got it years ago at Old Navy and it’s like wearing a blanket but looks much better.  It’s one of the most comfortable dresses I own.  I think that’s important, to not only look good but also feel good in what you’re wearing! Especially if it’s a night full of mingling.

Outfit 3 necklace

Outfit 3 belt

I let the dress be center stage and then accessorized with the pumps, necklace & belt with bow detail. You’ll be turning heads in an outfit like this.

I would be honored if you wore Happy Shoe Day pumps to your Holiday party!  They’re $32 just click here.

The happiest of holidays to you and hope you’re having a happy shoe day!

Shoe Shopping Like a Pro

This is not going to come as a surprise to you but shopping for shoes is one of my favorite things to do.  So much so I started an online boutique so I can shop for shoes for my readers. of course has the best shoes online (I know, I’m biased). Besides my own online boutique there are 3 places that I head first to find a new pair for my collection.

  1. an online shoe club.

I love this site because there is a wide variety of shoes that don’t break the bank.  You sign up and create an online profile.  Then every month a personal stylist picks shoes for you to choose from for just $39.95.  A great added bonus, it’s not just shoes.  Don’t think you need to add another pair to your collection? They also have clothes, bags, jewelry and more.  I own a couple of purses and outfits from them.  I love the fit! Before Happy Shoe Day sold shoes is where most of my shoes came from.

2. DSW: Designer Shoe Warehouse

Walking into DSW is very much an overwhelming moment for me. So many options! My game plan- head straight back to the clearance section and start at the beginning.  I do the same thing online too.  You can buy amazing shoes for as much as 60% off.

3. Marshalls

This one you have to physically walk into the store but it’s absolutely worth it. This is another clearance section that is unstoppable.  Head to your size and just sit back and decide which pair you want to take home.  You can get designer shoes for less than $20.  The best deal I’ve found here was a pair of Jessica Simpsons for $5.  I was flying high that day!

I’d be a fool if I didn’t remind you that is full of great shoes that won’t cost you a lot.  My most expensive pair are boots for $45. My goal is for you to be able to have shoes that you can treat as accessories.

Where is your favorite place to shop for shoes?

Have a  happy shoe day!

3 Outfits Perfect to Wear This Week

love to put outfits together.  Waking up each morning and deciding what to wear gets my day started off right.  I always start with the shoes then build my outfit around the shoes of the day. But some mornings I can’t seem to get it together enough to enjoy the outfit creating process.  I either have too much on my mind or I’m simply running late.  Days like that used to really bum me out but then I started to think ahead.  I pick out 3 outfits on Sunday that are ready to go for those mornings I’m not on top of my game.

Here are my back up outfits for this week.

Monday's Outfit

This first look is keeping it simple! Grabbed my black and white blouse from Primp and paired it with black jeggings from Target.  A simple black and white outfit is never a bad thing but it’s always fun to add a pop of color now and again.  With that in mind I completed the look with Happy Shoe Day Booties {$25}.

For the second look I’m going all business with a pair of slacks that have plaid detail to them.  The other colors in the pants are yellow and blue.  I decided to highlight the blue in the pants with a blue blazer. To make sure that the blazer was the center of the outfit I put a simple black t-shirt underneath.  Finally, a pair of black flats {$22}.

What’s perfect about these flats with the outfit is the blue in them to help carry the accent color throughout the entire look.

Lastly, let’s add some fringe with these booties {$35}. I love building outfits around these shoes because the possibilities are endless. For this outfit I went with this beautiful skirt from Cabi. The turmeric color screams fall and the details are flawless.  To finish the look I paired it a blue blouse that has the same turmeric color in it.

Now that I have 3 outfits ready to go for the week, I can warm up some cider and enjoy my Sunday night!

Have a happy shoe day.

One Outfit 4 Ways

The favorite accessory I own are my shoes.  I know, you’re not shocked by this.  But to prove that all you need is a great pair of shoes to change an outfit up I took a simple outfit and simply changed out the shoes (and scarf).

Original Outfit:

Original Outfit

I took a white top, blazer and a pair of skinny black pants and created 4 different outfits.

Ballet Flats

First up, we’re going more casual for this one.  I used a graphic scarf to brighten the look and then added a pair of flats {$22} to complete the look.  These are primarily black but the textured flats brighten the look up. There is also blue, silver and white within the flat.  Although this look is casual the shoes keep it bright!

Burgundy BootiesNext, let’s add a little bootie {$25}!  Change out the scarf for a floral one that had the same burgundy color in it as the booties.  Wine colors are perfect for this time of year. Even though these are flats the fact that they are booties add some extra sass which is my goal a lot of times.

Wedge Booties

Now for a little height!  We’re going tan for the accent color here.  I added wedge booties {$35} and paired it with a pink leopard print scarf. A wedge shoe is perfect when you have to be dressed up all day but you don’t love heels.

Black and tan booites

Last, but not least! I’m adding a little edge to this look. Creating the sleek look by adding a black knit scarf with the blank and tan booties {$45}.  These booties add an edge to any outfit.  The thicker heel creating a more comfortable fit so you can wear them all day without your feet hurting.

I hope this inspired you to use your shoes more as accessories!

As always have a Happy Shoe Day!

Happy Shoe Day: Online Store

I’m so excited to announce that Happy Shoe Day is officially offering shoes!

One of the most frequently asked questions I get is, “can you buy shoes for me?”.  Finally the answer is YES!  I will have a small online boutique for you with the seasons hottest shoes.  I will always be adding new shoes to the boutique and will include them in my blog posts.  I’m starting with five pairs for fall. Let me introduce you to them…

These were the first ones I ordered for my online boutique. I’m in love with the tan booties with black faux leather detail.  These could dress up a pair of skinny jeans or even add a some edge to a dress. It’s all about taking the bootie to the next level! {$40}

Next are these great wedge tan booties.  An added benefit to these stylish booties are that they will carry you through some nasty weather because the bottoms are made for winter.  These scream weekend and will become a staple in your wardrobe. {$35}

Hello classic beauty!  Cut out booties are everywhere this fall.  How could I resist this neutral one.  These are perfect for the office with a pencil skirt and blouse or a sassy dress for date night. {$35}

It’s no secret that fringe is a huge fall trend but it’s not for everyone.  These booties are a perfect way to wear the trend without going over the top.  How perfect would these be with a pair of skinny jeans and a graphic t-shirt. {$35}

Time to get sassy!  I’m helping you take your boot game up a notch with these knee high boots. Here you’re diving into the fringe trend a little bit more but not going over the top.  I love that these aren’t too much but add some personality to your look. {$45}

Be sure you check back to see how I style my outfit with shoes and what other shoes I add to the boutique.

The Blanket Scarf- 3 new ways to wear it!

The nights are cooler and the leaves are starting to turn but the temps are still hitting the high 70’s during the day.

Solution: Blanket Scarf!

These scarfs aren’t just for the dead of winter anymore, they’re perfect for fall! So take them out of your closet and start wearing them… I’ll show you how.

And I think you need the scarf below in your fall wardrobe.  Head to my facebook page to learn how you can win it.

  1. Around the neck.

Blanket Scarf 1

This is extremely easy to do.  Simply put this into a triangle and put the point of scarf in the front and wrap.  You can hide the access fabric under the scarf.  This will stay all day and will create pattern to an other wise boring t-shirt.

2. Cape!

Blanket Scarf 2

It’s as simple as folding it in half and wrapping it around your shoulders.

Blanket Scarf 2 w belt

Or if you’re looking for a more styled look add a belt! For another look click here.

3. Belt it!

Blanket Scarf 3

Again, fold it in a triangle and then roll it like a normal scarf.  After you wrap around the scarf around your neck- belt it.  This a great way to change up any outfit.

Outfit rundown:

Scarf: Style Trolley

T-shirt: Target

Pants: H&M

Booties: Primp

1 Pair of Jeans = 3 Comfy Weekend Outfits

It’s late August and the fall crisp is starting to sneak into the air.  The Minnesota State Fair is just around the corner and that is the unofficial sign that the summer of 2015 is winding down.  Although I’m not ready to put my summer clothes away, I am ready for the transitional time between summer and fall.

One of my favorite places to shop is The Style Trolley!  This isn’t your average boutique… it’s a boutique on wheels!

style trolley 2

This fashion truck has just loaded its latest shipment and it’s stock full of comfy and fashionable fall clothes. Between what Mariah, the owner, has in her truck and what I have in my closet already I created 3 comfy outfits perfect for the weekend. Want to buy these looks right now?  You can also shop online.

Outfit 1: Perfect for a Saturday filled with shopping and maybe even lunch with friends.

All summer long you’ve seen graphic tee’s. How about a graphic sweatshirt?!

Processed with VSCOcam with a6 preset

Pairing this comfy (and extremely soft) sweatshirt with a printed scarf from Primp.  And the jeans I’m using for this entire post are from H&M. To finish the look off add knee high boots from Justfab.

Outfit 2: Date night wearing a kimono!  You saw it this summer and you’ll see it more this fall.

Outfit 7

YOU CAN PAIR THIS VERY COLORFUL ONE WITH ANYTHING You can pair This very colorful one you can pair with anything.  I enjoy classic fall colors when it comes to styling. I paired it with an orange tank top to bring out the the orange in the kimono.

Outfit 7 shoes

With a beautiful top and using the tank top to bring out the colors I wanted the rest of the outfit to be pretty simple.  So, again I just used my skinny jeans from H&M and then using my tan western inspired boots to complete the look.

Outfit 3: The Cozy Sunday Look

When it comes to fall it’s all about layering and being comfy.

Outfit 2

And what is more comfy than a blanket scarf? Not much! I turned this one into a cape. This is the perfect accessory for late summer nights.  I played off the colors in the scarf to brighten the look up.

Outfit 2 Jewelry

Adding a yellow tank from Target to create a nice silhouette for you and added mint earring along with the brown and gold necklace.

Outfit 2 shoes

Then finally a pair of boots I got last fall from JustFab to anchor the look.

Bonus Outfit!!  It’s time to put those jeans away and take out your white pants.

Outfit 6

That’s right! We’re taking a sweatshirt and dressing it up for work… perfect for a Monday.  I love the detail not only around the neck but carrying the same style around the wrist.

Outfit 6 shoes

And then let’s add some more bling to this outfit with my bedazzled flats to finish the look off.

Did you enjoy these looks?  Let me know which one is your favorite in the comments below.

I hope you enjoy your fall and have happy shoe day!

Stop the Flop

It’s a summer shoe staple… flip flops.

Flip Flops

They are the first shoes taken out when the seasons turn from snow filled winters to sunshine springs.  They serve their purpose of an easy slip on shoe but these days there is no reason to be wearing them.  As my mom, the flip flop queen, reads this I know she’s going to be disappointed

but this is for all you flip flop lovers… PUT THEM AWAY! It’s time to dress up those feet for summer with comfortable, supportive and stylish sandals.

I went to 3 Minnesota Boutiques to pick out some of my favorite sandal styles!

Let’s start at Primp Boutique:  Primp Exterior

The Primp location I usually shop at is located in Excelsior but each of their 6 spots have a special inventory of clothes, accessories and of course shoes.

These 2 sandals that I picked up are great because you can wear them with anything… they are casual and neutral!

These are from the Qupid shoe line and are $22 from Primp.  They are perfect for a more casual look, easy to put on as you run out for errands.  They totally fulfill the purpose of a flip flop but have a lot more style to them.

These are Bamboo sandals and are $20 from Primp.  These have much more of a Tory Burch look to them and resemble flip flops but with an ankle strap added.  The gold accent and the pink tone will be easier to dress up for your night out on the town.

Next stop, Corset Style and Fashion Boutique:

corset styling

Corset is located in Edina on France Ave.  What I love about Corset is that it’s not just a boutique that has amazing clothing, shoes & accessories but you can also hire them for many other styling service… for example you can have a professional stylist go through your closet and create new outfits for you. AMAZING!

Of course when I’m in there I gravitate to the shoes before anything else!

These gold sandals were a hit as soon as I brought them into my office!  They are the same style of a flip flop but the gold details with the strap is key for dressing up the flip flop style.  These nicole shoes are so great for summer with a pair of shorts or a sassy maxi.  DEAL ALERT: Head into Corset and mention Twin Cities Live now through Saturday, July 11th you’ll get them for $19.

These Madeline sandals are the closest thing to flip flops that you’ll see me in this summer.  These are definitely an upgrade with the think straps, the silver color and even adding detail on how the strap attaches to the shoes.  Again, this is flip flops older, more mature and fashionable sister. DEAL ALERT: Head into Corset and mention Twin Cities Live now through Saturday, July 11th you’ll get them for $19.

Last stop in my Twin Cities sandal shopping is a new boutique called Merilou.

Merilou opened in October of last year in the heart of downtown Wayzata.  They have a store full of unique clothing, jewelry and even some funny greeting cards. I heard about them from Minneapolis St. Paul Magazine’s Shopping Editor, Allison Kaplan, with the recommendation to head there for their shoes. I’m so glad I did!

These Schutz gladiators is a great example of taking sandals to the next level.  I love that these sandals elongate your legs without having to wear heels.  This style is not going anywhere so you should totally pick up a pair. These are $200.  Plus, I love how gladiators add texture to an outfit.

sam eldaman

Sam Edelman is a new shoe line to me and I’m starting to get into some trouble on their website!!  Although simple, these sandals could be a staple in your closet.  I love that there isn’t a ton of detail and for that reason that they’ll go with everything.  These are priced at $70.

Ankle straps and no thongs is something you’re going to be seeing more of in store.  These metallic Joie sandals are so on trend!!  I can imagine these with white shorts, sassy shirt and some really fun metallic accessories.  You can get these for $275 at Merilou and I have to say it would be a good investment… this trend isn’t going anywhere.

I hope you enjoyed my sandal shopping adventure!!

Be sure to go out and have a happy shoe day!

I got to share my picks on Twin Cities Live!
